SmartClass WEB Manager Minimum Requirements

The WEB Manager will normally run continuously to support 24/7 operation. It should be installed on a school server that is sufficiently robust to support the anticipated traffic.

The WEB Manager can run on the same server that hosts the SmartClass database, or it can run on an independent computer. The WEB Manager does not require a dedicated server: It can be located on an existing server that supports other applications.

The requirements for the server are nominal as follows:

WEB Manager Server

  • Windows-based operating system (Win 10 Pro, Win 11 Pro, Windows Server 2008 or newer).
  • Intel or AMD multi-core processor.
  • 3.5 GHz processor (or better)
  • 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
  • 500 GB SSD drive (or larger)
  • Wired LAN 1 Gbps.
  • Dedicated Internet external port.

Internet Connection

As the WEB Manager will have a direct connection to the Internet via a public IP on port 80 (or a random dedicated port), from a performance perspective, it is important that the school’s Internet connection provide adequate bandwidth and performance for the anticipated level of user traffic.

The broadband bandwidth recommendation suggested by the US State Educational Technology Directors Association, (SETDA), is as follows:

Broadband access for Schools Recommanded bandwidth
Direct connection to the Internet Service Provider (ISP). At least 1 Gbps per 1000 students.
Internet-Wide Area Network (WAN) from the central office to school campuses. At least 10 Gbps per 1000 students.
