Writing Activities are great because they can be either specific to a grammar focus, utilize new vocabulary or ask the students to be imaginative in their interpretation of events. Our writing templates are not autograded but allow students to be expressive and demonstrate understanding of formal and informal writing conventions.
One easy activity that you can create is to upload a picture and have students tell a story. You can be specific in your expectations in the instructions whether giving a word limit, a style of writing focus, or list of words that must be used in the text. With the picture below, you could have students write a persuasive paragraph, urging others to protect the environment.
Another easy-to-create Open Text activity would be to upload an audio or video recording and have the students respond either by summarizing what they heard/watched or continuing the dialog in how they think it would end. Again, the instruction box allows you to determine the focus of the assignment.
Lastly, you could upload a text, whether a letter or an email, and have students write a response to it. You could even upload a job description and have students write to the employer explaining why they would be a good fit for the position using descriptive adjectives.
Our Question and Answer template is similar to Open Text in that it provides a space for students to respond in written format, but it is best used when you have multiple questions you would like responses to.
Students could watch, listen or read and then answer questions. If students watched a video, you could include a hint to where the answer is in the recording by putting the time in parenthesis.
These were just a couple ideas of what could be done with our writing templates. If you have any questions or need help creating activities, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
