Teacher and Student Device Recommendations for Installed SmartClass  Apps

Do you want to use SmartClass to teach your students? Here is a list of devices that can be used to run SmartClass Installed Apps.

Teacher Computer:

Teachers must use a Windows computer (desktop, laptop or all-in-one) to install SmartClass HUB and/or LIVE.  The minimum recommendations for the Teacher Windows computers are as follows:

  • Windows Proor Educational versions. 
  • Multicore CPU 2.5 GHz or faster.
  • 8 GB or more.  For LIVE 16 GB or more is recommended.
  • 120 GB SSD drive (SSD, M.2.) minimum.
  • Internet access, 5 Mb/s. The speed can be lower, but it will be longer to access the documents and save the student responses.
  • XGA Monitor (1024 x 768 pixels min) or better.
    For LIVE, 2 monitors with the same screen resolution are recommended
  • Keyboard & mouse (or equivalent touch screen or touchpad functionality).
  • Sound card with external headphones & microphone connection. For a laptop, it is not recommended to use the internal microphone and Speakers.
  • For HUB: WIFI AC 5GHz or Wired LAN 100Mbps or better. 
  • For LIVE + HUB: Wired LAN 1 Gbps or better. WIFI is not supported for Teacher LIVE.

Student Devices:

Students can use a variety of devices, but keep in mind that the smaller, the more difficult it will be to use. While most laptops or tablets will do, some smartphones will have very small screens and very low performance.

The internet connection speed can slow down logging in, opening exercises, and saving answers. It should not prevent students from doing these exercises.

Here are the minimum recommendations for student devices:

Windows PC, Laptop, all-in-one:

  • Windows 11 Pro or Educational versions. 
  • Multicore CPU 2.5 GHz or faster.
  • 8 GB of RAM or more. 
  • 120 GB drive, solid-state drive (SSD, M.2.). 
  • Internet access, 5 Mb/s. The speed can be lower, but it will take longer to access the documents and student responses.
  • XGA Monitor (1024 x 768 pixels) minimum.
  • Keyboard & mouse (or equivalent touch screen or touchpad functionality).
  • Sound card with external headphones & microphone connection. For a laptop, all-in-one, it is not recommended to use the internal microphone and Speakers. 
  • For Hub: WIFI AC 5GHz or Wired LAN 100Mbps or better. 
  • For Live: WIFI AC 5GHz or Wired LAN 1000Mbps or better. 

Windows is the recommended OS for SmartClass Live Student Stations. 
The performance will be lesser with the other OS mentioned below.

Android Tablet and Smart Phone

  • Android 8.0 and up. 
  • Multicore CPU.
  • 1 GB of RAM or more.  
  • 16 GB of storage. 
  • Internet access, 5 Mb/s. The speed can be lower, but it will be longer to access the documents and student responses.
  • Keyboard & mouse (or equivalent touch screen functionality).
  • Sound card with external headphones & microphone connection. It is not recommended to use the internal microphone and Speakers. 
  • WIFI AC 5GHz or Wired LAN 100Mbps or better. 
  • There is no SmartClass app available from the Android Play Store currently.
  • For LIVE activities, it is possible manually install our SmartClass Android Apps. Contact SmartClass Support Team for the direct download link. 

iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and iPod Touch 

  • The IOS and IPAD OS are not currently available 

Chromebook

  • We recommend using SmartClass Web Apps on Chromebooks.
  • There is no SmartClass app available from the Android Play Store currently.
  • For LIVE activities, it is possible manually install our SmartClass Android Apps. Contact SmartClass Support Team for the direct download link. 
  • Chromebook models released after 2020 can run Android Apps. 
  • Performance may not be at its best with Chromebooks. We highly recommend using another platform.
