We're excited to introduce a powerful new feature in SmartClass: AI-based translation of activity instructions for students. This enhancement is designed to support diverse classrooms by helping students focus more on learning and less on trying to understand instructions in a non-native language.
Teachers can now enable AI to translate instructions for any activity directly into a student's preferred language. This helps reduce confusion, boosts engagement, and ensures all students have an equal opportunity to succeed — no matter their language background.
Key Benefits
-
✅ Improved comprehension: Students can read instructions in the language they understand best.
-
✅ More inclusive classrooms: Supports multilingual learners and newcomers.
-
✅ Faster onboarding: New students can participate right away without needing translations from teachers or peers.
-
✅ More time for learning: Students focus on completing activities, not decoding directions.
These translations can be provided not only for SmartClass activities but also for any activity that teachers create. The instructions that teachers add must be in English in the instructions box for the translation function to work.
This can not be enabled for already created courses.
Teachers need to create a new class/course, download the curriculum, enter the course, and, under User Settings, select "Language".
Then, select the native language of the students of that course. There is even the option to select "Multi-Language" if multiple languages are spoken in the same course. Next, check the box to allow students to translate instructions.
By enabling the instruction translation, students have the option to click on the globe icon within the activity and select their native language for the following list:
